70 years ago, the 78th Fighter Group of the USAAF arrived at RAF Duxford. 2013's Spring Air Show commemorated the event with the first ever airshow display by the Eagle Squadron, four aircraft closely associated with American Pilots serving in Europe during World War 2.

The Spitfire and Hurricane were flown by pilots of the Eagle Squadrons - RAF squadrons formed of American airmen who volunteered to fight before the USA officially entered the war after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The P-47 and P-51 were flown by pilots of the USAAF in Europe following America's entry to the conflict.
